November 1998

The U.S. Department of Commerce's Special American Business Internship Training Program (SABIT) announces the availability of grant funding for U.S. companies and organizations interested in training managers and scientists from the NIS.

Applications for the program will be available immediately after notice of funding has been published in the Federal Register in November 1998. Applicant proposals will be accepted through January 1999, and will be evaluated on a rolling basis.

  • internships last for a period of 3 to 6 months.
  • U.S. companies can host up to 10 English-speaking experienced scientists or business managers.
  • The interns may be preselected by the grantee or selected by SABIT if the grantee does not have suitable candidates in mind.
  • SABIT will reimburse grantees for round-trip international airfare, as well as certain housing and per diem costs.
  • U.S. organizations are required to pay all other costs associated with the training, including visa and insurance costs.

To receive more information and/or an application, contact SABIT by telephone at (202) 482-0073 or by e-mail at sabit@usita.gov, or visit SABIT's web site at www.mac.doc.gov/sabit/sabit.html.
