October 1998 The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) - MIGA, an agency of the World Bank, launched PrivatizationLink this past summer. This Internet-based information service provides current information on state-owned companies and assets currently for sale and on relevant laws, regulations, and procedures governing these transactions. The site covers the Newly Independent States, as well as African and Latin American countries, and contains a databank, business directory, virtual library, and news and events section. MIGA works in cooperation with national privatization agencies and privatization experts at the World Bank to collect the information and provide analysis on this website. For more information, visit PrivatizationLink at http://www.privatizationlink.com. United States Information Agency (USIA) - USIA sponsors a number of training initiatives designed to benefit commercial cooperation between U.S. and NIS companies. Implemented through private contract organizations, these initiatives include short-term technical training and network-building visits to the United States by NIS-based business people. During the 1998-99 fiscal year, nearly 1,100 participants will visit the U.S. through these initiatives. For more information on these types of programs and to learn how United States businesses can become involved in the opportunities offered, contact Veronica Rector at USIA, Tel.: (202) 205-3003.
