CIC Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQ): We get lots of questions from consumers and we try to respond promptly to them all. However, sometimes we fall behind and you may have to wait. To help you get your answers quickly, we've collected a group of the most frequently asked questions which you can review and perhaps get answers to your questions immediately.
The Consumer Information Center is only able to answer questions and provide information through the publications that are listed in our Catalog. We regret that we cannot respond specifically to your inquiry. However, listed below are suggestions for sources of information that may be of assistance. The Consumer's Resource Handbook published by the Consumer Information Center gives listings of federal, state, and local government offices with consumer related responsibilities. The Handbook also includes Better Business Bureaus, and consumer contacts with corporations and trade associations, and it tells how to write an effective complaint letter. Search the web. Start by searching CIC's web site for the information you need and then try one or more of the other search engines listed on our search page to comb the web. Another valuable resource is your local library. The reference section is likely to have materials to help answer your questions, and the librarian can assist you in finding the information you need on any subject. If you have a question about the Federal government, you can call the Federal Information Center at (800) 688-9889. Sorry, but the Consumer Information Center has no regulatory
authority and does not directly handle consumer complaints. We do have lots of valuable
info to help you get assistance and resolve your problem. The best source of this info is
right here on our web site. The Consumer's Resources Handbook, a very popular 148-page
reference tool contains advice, tips and thousands of addresses, phone numbers, and web
sites of organizations which can help you. The Consumer Information Center provides a full array of services to members of the Media. We want to help you get the right information and contact the right sources. Read a description of our Services to the Media, call us at 202-501-1794, or e-mail our Media Staff. All of the publications in the Consumer Information Center program are written and/or sponsored by agencies of the Federal government. Many of our publications result from a cooperative partnership between private-sector companies and federal agencies. The CIC Cooperative Publishing Program can work with your agency or company to bring your valuable information to the public. Read a description of our Services to Agencies and Cooperative Publishing Program, call us at 202-501-1794, or e-mail our Publishing Staff. We are working to make the Consumer Information Center web site as useful and informative as possible. We want to hear what you think. Have we succeeded? How can we improve it? Did you have a problem anywhere on the site? Do you have a question for our web staff? E-mail the Web Staff. Want your site to link to CIC? We created a Link to CIC page especially for you. We've provided a banner, sample graphics, text, and code for you to choose from. Walk away with a sporty little red CIC star today! Any other reason:
