Radionuclides Implementation

EPA is revising the current radionuclides regulation, which has been in effect since 1977, and is setting a standard for uranium as required by the 1986 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act. The current standards are: combined radium 226/228 of 5 pCi/L; a combined standard of 4 mrem/year for beta emitters; and a gross alpha standard for all alphas of 15 pCi/L, not  radon and uranium.

Implementation Guidance

The revised draft final Radionuclides State Implementation Guidance [EPA 816-D-00-002 / January 2002] provides a "how to" approach for EPA Regions and states who will implement the final regulation issued Dec 7, 2000.  It contains an explanation of the rule's requirements and guidance for preparing state primacy revisions.  The implementation guidance also covers monitoring requirements, violation determination, and data reporting.
