Direct Access to SDWIS Data On The Mainframe

Access standard reports on the mainframe or perform ad hoc queries

Mainframe account

You must obtain a mainframe user ID and password in order to:

  • Access standard reports on the mainframe,
  • Access production and frozen SDWIS/FED data tables on the mainframe, and/or
  • Access all production and frozen SDWIS/FED data tables via ODBC-compliant software such as MS Access.
Send an email to dorsey.towana@epa.gov , and provide your name, phone number, address, and a statement of your business need for the data.


Accessing standard reports and performing ad hoc queries using the IBM Platinum Report Facility (PRF) on the mainframe

A mainframe users' guide is available. 

EPA offers training courses about retrieving SDWIS/FED data via standard reports (covered in the beginners course) and via PRF (covered in the intermediate and advanced courses).

  • Performing ad hoc queries using the Oracle Transparent Gateway (OTG) and ODBC-compliant software such as MS Access

    For more information about linking to SDWIS/FED data tables via the OTG and ODBC-compliant software, contact SDWIS/FED user support at 703/292-6121. Note : this option is not currently available to users outside the EPA firewall due to unresolved security issues.
