Mr. Peter McCumiskey serves as the Deputy Assistant Administrator of the
Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), Atlanta, Georgia.
ATSDR is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The Agency's mission is to prevent or
mitigate adverse human health effects as a consequence of exposure to
hazardous substances in the environment. ATSDR services its mission
through programs of public health assessments, toxicological research,
epidemiological investigations, surveillance programs, exposure registries,
health and medical education, and database establishment.
As Deputy Assistant Administrator, Mr. McCumiskey serves as the agency's lead on issues of personnel, budget, program coordination, and performance assessment. He also serves as the agency's principal in coordinating various activities with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. McCumiskey was Associate Administrator for Management and Operations at ATSDR.
Before coming to ATSDR, Mr. McCumiskey had a long and distinguished background as a Public Health Advisor with the CDC working in the STD, Environmental Health, and Agent Orange Programs. Mr. McCumiskey is a graduate of Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he majored in communications.
