Dr. Jeffrey Lybarger has served ATSDR since May 1985, most recently as the Director of the Division of Health Studies. His past positions in ATSDR have been Chief of the Health Assessment Branch, Acting Director of the Office of Health Assessment, and Chief of the Epidemiology and Medicine Branch. He has held previous assignments in the Centers for Disease Control between 1977 and 1985 including Medical Officer with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Epidemic Intelligence Officer assigned to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, and Medical Epidemiologist with the Center for Environmental Health. He received his B.A. and M.D. degrees from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois; and his M.S. in environmental health from the University of Cincinnati. He completed an internship in Pediatrics at St. Louis University, an Occupational Medicine Residency at the University of Cincinnati, and a Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency at the Centers for Disease Control. He is board certified in both Occupational Medicine and Public Health and Preventive Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
