ATSDR's newly established Office of Urban Affairs (OUA) provides leadership in the areas of
(1) Environmental Justice, (2) Brownfields, and (3) Minority Health.
These three areas focus attention
on the environmental and human health condition in communities of color, low-income communities, and
other communities that have concerns about improving health and quality of life related to environmental threats.
The agency's specific focus is on reducing exposure and preventing adverse human health effects and diminished quality of life associated with exposure to hazardous substances from waste sites, unplanned releases, and other sources of pollution present in the environment.
