In August 1987, Dr. Xintaras joined the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, U.S. Public Health Service where he served as the Executive Secretary of the ATSDR Board of Scientific Counselors and as Scientist Administrator in the Office of the Associate Administrator for Science.
From 1981 to 1987, Dr. Xintaras was on detail to the World Health Organization, Office of Occupational Health where he served as a senior scientist. During this period, he was involved in methods development (neurotoxicology) and served as a consultant in occupational health and safety programs for developing countries. Dr. Xintaras also worked as a research scientist (toxicology) for both the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the Environmental Protection Agency. Before joining the federal government, Dr. Xintaras worked as an air pollution engineering inspector with the Los Angeles County Air Pollution Control District and as a research chemist in private industry.
Dr. Xintaras is a recipient of a Fulbright award and has lectured on heavy metal toxicology. He has lectured extensively on environmental issues and is considered a pioneer in the field of behavioral toxicology. Dr. Xintaras has co-edited several books concerned with neurotoxic chemicals and environmental health. He has an A.B. (biochemical sciences) from Harvard College and received his Sc.D. (industrial health) from the University of Cincinnati.
Dr. Charlie Xintaras completed military duty as a Hospital Corpsman at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Newport, Rhode Island (1946-1948). He retired from the government after over 40 years of federal service on New Year's Day, January 1, 1999
Dr. Xintaras is a Fellow of the Collegium Ramazzini where he serves currently as the Webmaster of the Collegium Ramazzini Web Site.
