To be eligible for most programs, your income must be at or below the maximum established for your area. If you want to apply for public housing or Section 8 certificates or vouchers, you must go to your housing authority.

To apply for public housing or Section 8 certificates or vouchers: You must go to your housing authority. Each housing authority has a system for accepting applications. They can tell you what their system is and the steps you will need to take. There are waiting lists, and sometimes those waiting lists can be very long. But call the housing authority to find out.
