national partners
homeownership week 2000

Join the National Partners in Homeownership in celebrating National
Homeownership Week 2000-a campaign to emphasize local and national efforts to "Make the American Dream a Reality in the 21st Century."

From June 3rd through June 10th 2000, hundreds of communities across the country will host events to strengthen homeownership initiatives. Please get your free PDF reader if you need one, your Planning Guide and register your event so that it may be included in a listing of National Events. Homeownership Week will provide a forum to announce national initiatives as well as to develop and reinforce local partnerships hard at work throughout the country.

The first three National Homeownership Weeks have been resoundingly
successful. Homeownership Week 1999 featured more than 1,300 events during the course of the week-long celebration. These events included homebuyer fairs, seminars and workshops, official proclamations, open houses, and construction and rehabilitation. More below...

The National Partners in Homeownership is an unprecedented public-private partnership working to dramatically increase homeownership opportunity in America. Under the directive of President Clinton, the Partnership was formed in 1995 by nearly 60 national organizations that care about homeownership. Today, the Partnership consists of 66 members representing lenders, real estate professionals, home builders, nonprofit housing providers, and federal, state and local governments. HUD Secretary Andrew Cuomo leads the Partnership.

The Partnership’s goal is to achieve a homeownership rate of 67.5 percent of all American households by the end of the year 2000, creating up to eight million additional homeowners since 1995. To reach this ambitious goal, the Partnership has developed a National Homeownership Strategy which proposes 100 specific actions. The National Partners are also working to develop and enhance local homeownership partnerships across the country. To date, approximately 160 local partnerships have signed on to the National Homeownership Strategy.

Significant strides have been made since the formation of the Partnership. The 1999 homeownership rate reached 66.8 percent—the highest annual rate in American history.
