Children in your care may be eligible for free or low-cost health insurance.

HUD has joined forces with seven other Federal Departments in support of a Presidential initiative to extend health care to as many as 10 million American children. Almost 5 million children qualify for Medicaid but are not enrolled. Millions more, whose primary caregivers make too much money to qualify for Medicaid -- but not enough to pay for private health insurance -- qualify for the new $24 billion Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), but must be enrolled.

In announcing HUD's involvement in outreach efforts, Secretary Cuomo said that the initiative "will dramatically improve the health of thousands of children in HUD-assisted housing who desperately need access to quality health care."
