Hurricane Exercise 2001
to begin soon in GTMO

By AK1 Robin Smith
Naval Base Operations Leading Petty Officer

In next two weeks, U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will be participating in Hurricane Exercise 2001 (HURREX01). This exercise will test the base’s hurricane preparedness before hurricane season officially starts June 1. Hurricane season runs through Nov. 30.

If you live in non-hurricane resistant housing and plan on relocating to a hurricane resistant housing unit, you will need to stop by Naval Base Operations to fill out the relocation form. The housing areas that will be affected are Paola Point, Deer Point, Marine Site, Marina Point, Corinaso Point and Hibiscus Hollow.

If you choose not to relocate to a hurricane resistant house, you will be assigned to a hurricane shelter. The shelter warden for that shelter will muster you once the appropriate hurricane condition has been set. Please remember that pets are not allowed at the shelter.

In the coming weeks, you will be seeing and hearing more information in regards to this exercise.

If you’d like to volunteer to be a shelter warden, call ET1 Michael Newton at 4721. If have any questions regarding this upcoming exercise, call AK1 Robin Smith at 4366.
