Kvaerner employee dies, two injured in auto accident

GUANTANAMO BAY – A Kvaerner employee was killed and two others were injured Aug. 16 when their 1985 Dodge truck hit a telephone pole off Quarry Road.

Hilario “Larry” M. Abagon, 30, was pronounced dead at the U.S. Naval Hospital following the accident. Howard Lindsay, the driver, and Wilfred A. Haynes both sustained injuries and were treated and released from the U.S. Naval Hospital.

After transferring to Kvaerner from Burns and Roe in March, Abagon, a Filipino foreign national, worked at the base Self Help Store as a painter.

More than 300 base residents attended an Aug. 19 memorial service for Abagon at the base chapel.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
