Flag football action heats up in GTMO



GUANTANAMO BAY - The GTMO 2000 Flag Football season kicked off this past week with fast and furious action.
On July 24 in the men’s division, the Hospital defeated Ordnance 34 – 0, Marine Barracks defeated NCTAMS/Dental 20 - 6 and NAVSTA defeated NMCB 5 26 - 0.

On July 26, NAVSTA ran its record to 2 - 0 by defeating the Marine Barracks in a great game 21 - 6. NMCB 5 got their first win of the season by defeating Ordnance 13 - 0 and the Hospital also ran its record to 2 - 0 by defeating NCTAMS/Dental
28 - 7.

Games are played Mondays and Wednesdays starting at 6 p.m. Come on out for fast pace action.

In the women’s flag football division, which kicked off July 28, NAVSTA shut out the Hospital 12 - 0.

NAVSTA jumped out to an early lead in the first half when IC1(SW) Patricia Fowler fielded a Hospital punt and returned the punt 48 yards for the first score of the game. The point after was no good and NAVSTA led 6 - 0. Late in the first half, Fowler connected with ABHAN Lindsey Frazier for a 6-yard score and NAVSTA went up 12 - 0 with a missed extra point. At the half, the score was 12 - 0, NAVSTA.

The second half was a defensive game as neither team could push the ball in and when the gun sounded, the NAVSTA came away with the victory.
