The weather was sunny, friendship was contagious and the desserts were plentiful as the GTMO community gathered last Sunday afternoon for Afternoon Delites, a fundraiser for the Guantanamo Bay chapter for the American Red Cross.
As attendees entered the home of CAPT and Ann Hawkins, they were greeted with the smell of six types of fresh brewed coffees and a variety of flavored teas. Choosing one of the above or possibly a glass of champagne or a Ting Special, they then moved on to view and sample the 30 homemade desserts. Donated by the talented chiefs and bakers of GTMO, these desserts covered the spectrum of culinary delights and were as wonderful to look it as they were to taste. The afternoon was spent enjoying the guitar music and sing-alongs by Gerry Tanio, sitting on the patio meeting new and old friends and having just another taste. As the guests departed with memories of a wonderful time, over $400 had been raised to help support Red Cross services to GTMO.
Many thanks to CAPT and Ann Hawkins for the offer of their home for this event, Gerry Tanio for the great music, Red Cross volunteers; Sandy Fischer, Laura McKim, Shawn Carter, Donna Carter, Frank and Joyce Kruppa, Brandon Renninger and Jose Moreno and all the bakers and guests.
