The Government of the Russian Federation issued a Resolution #1608 "On Partial Changes of Types of Import Customs Duties approved by the Government of the Russian Federation on December 27, 1996, #1560". The Resolution was adopted by the Government on December 19, 1997, and was published in "Rossiyskaya Gazeta", 01.06.98. Resolution does not change the rates of customs duties, but adds the minimum value (in ECU per 1 kg or per 1 piece) for each group of selected products. According to Russian officials, implementation of combined rates of customs tariffs will help to prevent under-evaluation of goods and products imported into Russia. The new combined rates will come into effect on February 1, 1998.
