Irkutsk region is rich with natural resources, such as oil, gas, and gold. Irkutsk region is the third largest in Russia in terms of the amount of gold extracted. Eleven tons of gold is being mined annually in the region. In 1999, 12 tons of gold was mined, which the best result for the region since 1915. Over 94 percent of gold was mined in the Bodaibinsky district. However, the local authorities have been attempting to develop gold deposits in other districts.

Irkutsk Regional Administration and Natural Resources Management Committee announce tender on acquiring licenses for the right to exploit deposits of gold. Even though only Russian legal entities may acquire the licenses, those American companies involved in the mining industry and operating in Russia, might be interested in participating in the tender through their Russian partners or subsidiaries.

Total amount of minerals available: The deposit is represented by the apical part of the intrusion of gabbro-diorite, seam sickness 380-410 meters (1247-1345 feet) , length up to 800 m. Construction stone reserves are estimated at about 41386 thousand cubic meters (1460897 thousand cubic feet). Stripping coefficient on the deposit is 1:4.

REQUIREMENTS:

Companies willing to participate should be registered to work in the Russian Federation.

The following documents should be submitted-

1) An application;

2) Documents stating that the company has a right to develop minerals deposits;

3) Documents stating that the company has (or will have at the moment when the work begins) all the necessary qualified personnel to develop the deposit, all the necessary finance, technology and equipment necessary for safe work on the object, as well as certificates stating that the company had paid all the taxes due for budgets of all levels, including payments to the Fund of Mineral Recourses reproduction. All the certificates should be stamped and signed by the tax inspectorate.

4) Licensing fee for the right to participate should be paid (RUR 7,852, approximately US $ 280)

5) Projected work scope and output (in sealed envelope) on the field during its development.

The program should include the estimated impact on environment and analysis of this ecological impact.

6) A separate sealed envelope should contain the estimated amount to be paid (competitive fee), which should be not less than the minimal estimated RUR 10,000 (about US $ 357).
