Summary. The following report provides information on the April 17-21 international defense conference organized by the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  The event is expected to attract Russian and foreign business communities, Moscow  Government representatives, as well as small defense enterprises of Moscow, investment funds and financial organization participants. General Information.  On April 17-21, the First International Forum “High Technologies in the Defense Complex” will take place in Moscow.  The Forum is co-organized by the Moscow Government, Committee on Restructuring Defense Enterprises of Moscow and the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).  Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov is chairing the Organizing Committee of the Forum and will be opening the Forum.

 

The Forum is intended primarily for small- and medium-sized enterprises in the military-industrial complex which are seeking to restructure and utilize their high technology to produce competitive products.  The Forum is expected to attract investment and venture funds, financial credit and trade organization participants.

 

Forum’s Program & Structure.  The Forum will start with Plenary meetings and will include the International Conference titled “High Technologies – for the Benefit of Individual and Society,” roundtable discussions and the Exposition “High Technologies – Year 2000.”  A contest will be held to identify products and projects most attractive to national and foreign investors.  

 

The Plenary meetings will discuss:

-        Military-Industrial Conversion and Reformation Issues

-        Innovative Process Infrastructure and Science-Intensive Investment Mechanism.

 

The International Conference will be held in the Mayor’s Office, and will discuss current issues of high-tech complex development and the investment climate in the science-intensive areas.  Roundtable discussions will be held on: aviation, outer space, machine-building, nuclear energy and other energy resources, laser technologies, electronics and communication, chemical industry, healthcare and biotechnology, environmental issues, and financial and investment issues.

The Exposition “High Technologies – 2000” will be held in Pavilion III of the Krasnaya Presnya Expocenter, April 17-21, 2000 and will feature the latest developments and high-tech products of major defense-industrial enterprises.  “FinInvest,” a separate exposition section, will be devoted to financial-industrial groups, banks, insurance companies and investment firms.

 

Logistical Support.  Registration Fee.   MCCI is ready to provide logistical assistance to prospective U.S. participants in the Forum, including visa support, hotel accommodation, airport transfers and transfers to the events.  A $350 registration fee covers the following: individual accreditation, information package (Forum’s Program,  Exposition Catalog, International Conference and Investment Projects & Technologies Contest materials), entry pass to all events, interpretation services (consecutive and/or simultaneous), invitation to the official reception.
