SUMMARY. This IMI is an announcement of the Sixth International Exhibition Etiketka/Label 2000. The show will be held on March 14-18, 2000 and will cover label manufacturing and package bar-coding machinery, equipment, technologies and supplies. This is the main show for the labeling industry and it enjoys a good reputation among industry specialists. Increasing demand for quality labels and modern printing technology attracts more foreign and domestic companies to participate in the show, and the number of visitors is increasing too. The show organizers are providing comprehensive services to international participants in order to facilitate their exhibition activities. END SUMMARY.
1. Just a few years ago, Russia almost completely lacked modern printing facilities. Russian food processors, pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies had to place orders to print quality labels abroad at a cost of almost $200 million annually. The financial crisis of 1998 spurred domestic food production and demand for high quality labels for Russian products. The volume of domestically printing is increasing 10%-15% annually. Modern technologies are now being increasingly introduced by Russian label printing companies.
2. The exhibition center Sokolniki in Moscow will host the Sixth International Exhibition Etiketka/Label 2000 on March 14 through March 18, 2000. This international exhibition is the main for labeling and label printing machinery and equipment show in Russia and the Newly Independent States. It is very popular among Russian industry specialists. The show attracts many foreign companies from different countries. Last year, over 200 companies from 21 countries exhibited their labeling printing machinery in two halls of total 100,000 square feet. Over 45.000 guests visited the show. The foreign companies represented Italy, Spain, Israel, Finland, Sweden, Poland, South Korea, Great Britain, Switzerland and Hungary. Among the well known companies were Enso Paper Group, UPM Kummene Group, Finland, Gallus, Sweden, AKZO International, De La Rue and Willett, Great Britain, Werner Kammann, Germany, and Avery Dennison, U.S.A. According to the show participants, during the show they could conclude contracts, establish useful contacts, exchange experience and technologies. Among the most needed technologies were those of off-set and flexographic printing, as well as holographic stamps printing.
3. Despite the financial crisis, the number of the show participants is growing. Many
Russian and foreign companies are interested in participating in the show Etiketka/Label 2000. This year, the show expands its exhibition area from 100,000 square feet to 150,000. According to the show organizers, they have signed contracts with new participants, in addition to old clients.
In addition, responding to increasing demand for packaging technology and equipment for pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, the show organizers are specifically recruiting from those industries.
The show organizers are also working on expanding their international relations. Soyuzupack, a Russian association of packaging machinery and materials producers and suppliers, began working with the U.S. International Institute of Labeling and Converting. The show organizers hope to attract this institute to participate in the show.
4. In 2000, the show participants will exhibit the following machinery and
technologies:
ú Printing and publishing equipment and modern technologies for label making;
ú Label making materials (paper, cardboard, polymeric wrapping materials, foil, printing inks, and others);
ú Converting;
ú Fast label printing equipment for retail and wholesale companies;
ú Label design software programs;
ú Packaging production equipment;
ú EAN international system of bar-coding;
5. Traditionally, various contests are held before the show opening and the winners’
products are placed on a special display. Such contests are an additional great promotional tool for participating companies, since the competition in the label production market is growing. According to the show statistics, the number of companies willing to participate in such contests is growing.
