| The Nuclear Regulatory Commission
welcomed leaders of the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) to NRC Headquarters
in Rockville, Maryland, this week to discuss areas of mutual interest in the
regulation of commercial uses of nuclear materials.
Maria-Teresa Estevan, President of the CSN, led the delegation. Opening
visits and meetings were held with NRC Chairman Nils Diaz and Commissioners
Edward McGaffigan, Jr. and Jeffrey S. Merrifield. A series of meetings were
also held with senior NRC staff on technical areas such as emergency response,
inspection activities, communications, and other topics involving nuclear
regulation.
Other members of the CSN group included Jose Villadoniga, Director of Nuclear
Reactors and Safety; Antonio Morales Plaza, Secretary General; Adolfo Lama,
Counsel; Jose Morales Calderon, Communications Director; Ana Villuendas, President’s
Chief of Staff; and Alfredo de los Reyes, International Relations Expert.
