ACRS SUBCOMMITTEES ON THERMAL-HYDRAULIC PHENOMENA, MATERIALS AND METALLURGY TO MEET IN JANUARY

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) has scheduled meetings of its subcommittee on thermal-hydraulic phenomena and its joint subcommittee on materials and metallurgy and thermal-hydraulic phenomena beginning January 16 in Rockville, Maryland.

The meetings, with most sessions open to the public, will be held in Room T-2B1 of the agency's Two White Flint North building, at 11545 Rockville Pike. A portion of the meeting on January 17 may be closed to the public to discuss proprietary information pertinent to the Siemens Power Corporation.

The subcommittee meeting on thermal-hydraulics will be held on January 16 - 17, beginning at 8:30 a.m. each day. The subcommittee will continue its review of the revised Electric Power Research Institute Report, "Resolution of Generic Letter 96-06 Waterhammer Issues," and the Siemens Power Corporation's thermal-hydraulic code and its application to loss-of-coolant-accident analyses.

The joint subcommittee meeting on materials and metallurgy and thermal-hydraulic phenomena will be held on January 18, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The subcommittee will discuss the probabilistic fracture mechanics code and associated thermal-hydraulic issues that are being developed as part of the Pressurized Thermal Shock Technical Basis Re-evaluation Project.

Those who wish to make oral or written statements, or seek additional information on either subcommittee meeting or changes to their agenda should contact Paul Boehnert, at 301-415-8065.

ACRS and ACNW meeting notices, transcripts and letters are available on the internet, at http://www.nrc.gov/ACRSACNW/.
