No. 99-256 December 2, 1999 NRC Advisory Committee on Nuclear Waste to Meet in Rockville, Maryland on December 14-16 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Nuclear Waste will hold a meeting on December 14-16 in Rockville, Maryland, to discuss, among other things, the draft environment impact statement for Yucca Mountain by the Department of Energy. The meeting, which is open to the public and starts at 8:30 a.m. each day, will be conducted in Conference Room T-2B3 of the agency's Two White Flint North Building at 11545 Rockville Pike. The Committee will use this time to: hear a briefing from its staff on ACNW planning and procedures; discuss aspects of the DOE's draft environmental impact statement; prepare for and meet with NRC Commissioners; address issues regarding the level of radioactive contamination on solid material acceptable for unrestricted release; meet with the Director of the Division of Waste Management, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards; and prepare ACNW reports. Although ACNW meetings are open, they are not part of the agency's normal hearing process. The ACNW is an advisory group established by the NRC in 1988 to provide the agency with independent technical review and advice on the disposal of nuclear waste. While anyone may attend, the committee will consider only oral or written statements arranged in advance and limited to specific matters described in a Notice of Meeting published in an upcoming edition of the Federal Register. A detailed ACNW meeting agenda, transcripts and letter reports are available on the internet, at www.nrc.gov/ACRSACNW Those seeking additional information on opportunities to present oral statements or on final schedule changes, should contact Richard Major, at 301-415-7366. # # # # # | |||||||
