NRC Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards to Meet in Rockville, Maryland

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) has scheduled a meeting December 2-4 in Rockville, Maryland.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held in Conference Room T-2B3 of the agency's Two White Flint North Building at 11545 Rockville Pike. The daily agenda is as follows:

Thursday, December 2
8:30 - 8:45 a.m. Opening remarks by the ACRS Chairman
8:45 - 10:15 a.m. Proposed final amendment to 10 CFR 50.55a on the elimination of the 120-month in-service inspection and in-service testing programs update requirement.
10:30 a.m. - Noon Discussion of "Low-Power and Shutdown Operations Risk Insights" report.
1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Discussion of license renewal application for Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Plant and the associated safety evaluation report.
2:30 - 2:45 p.m. Break.
2:45 - 3:15 p.m. Future ACRS activities.
3:15 - 3:30 p.m. Reconciliation of ACRS comments and recommendations.
3:30 - 4:00 p.m. Planning and procedures subcommittee report.
4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Discussion of proposed ACRS reports.
Friday, December 3
8:30 - 8:35 a.m. Opening remarks by the ACRS Chairman.
8:35 - 10:00 a.m. Proposed resolution of generic safety issues 190 and 166.
10:15 - 11:45 a.m. Discussion of "A Technique for Human Event Analysis (ATHEANA)."

1:30 - 2:00 p.m. NRC Safety Research Program Report to the Commission.

Although meetings of the ACRS are open, they are not part of the agency's normal hearing process. The ACRS, an advisory committee group to the Commission, conducts independent, highly technical reviews of safety considerations related to nuclear facilities.

While anyone may attend the meeting, the committee will consider only oral or written statements arranged in advance and limited to specific matters described in a Notice of Meeting published in the Federal Register.
