No. 99-233 October 29, 1999 NOTE TO EDITORS: The new Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Richard A. Meserve, was sworn in this afternoon by the Honorable Neal Lane, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, in a brief ceremony at the NRC's headquarters in Rockville, Maryland. Dr. Meserve comes to the Commission from the Washington, D.C. law firm of Covington and Burling, where he was a partner. He holds a Ph.D. in applied physics from Stanford, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a B.A. from Tufts University.
