JAMES E. DYER NAMED REGIONAL ADMINISTRATOR FOR NRC REGION III

James E. Dyer has been named Regional Administrator of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Region III Office in Lisle, Illinois. Region III covers eight states in the Midwest.

He has been Deputy Regional Administrator of the NRC Region IV Office in Arlington, Texas, since February of last year.

Mr. Dyer will assume his new post after January 1 next year. Until that time, James L. Caldwell, the Region III Deputy Regional Administrator and Acting Regional Administrator, will continue in the acting position.

Prior to becoming Deputy Regional Administrator in Region IV, Mr. Dyer held other management positions in the regional office, beginning in June 1994.

He began his NRC career as an inspection specialist in the NRC Headquarters Office in 1983 and, subsequently, held several management positions there.

Mr. Dyer received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of California, a master's degree in business administration from Frostburg State University in Maryland, and an associate's degree in accounting from Montgomery College in Maryland.

NRC Region III includes Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. The regional office has regulatory responsibility for 24 commercial nuclear power plants at 16 sites, 4 nuclear fuel processing plants, and about 2,200 licensees for medical, commercial, academic, and industrial uses of radioactive materials.
